Aaron Potenza has an extensive background in advocacy and public policy. Currently working as a private consultant, he formerly served as Chair of New Jersey’s Transgender Equality Task Force, as a member of Governor Murphy’s transition team, as Policy Director for Garden State Equality from 2015-2019, where he worked to ensure passage of pro-equality legislation under both Republican and Democratic administrations, and as Manager of Strategic Initiatives for the New Jersey Coalition Against Sexual Assault. An educator and historian by training, he has taught courses on the histories of gender and sexuality at Yale University and Trinity College Hartford. Aaron did his undergraduate work in History and Gender Studies at the University of Rhode Island and his graduate work in American Studies at Yale University. In 2021 he was described by Insider NJ as one of the most well-respected transgender advocates in New Jersey history. He identifies as a gay transgender man and lives in Lawrenceville with his husband and their one-year-old twins.
