Aleyah Lopez is a proud New Jersey native. Prior to joining Garden State Equality, Aleyah spent two years as a Teach for America corps member, teaching at Luis Munoz Marin School for Social Justice in Newark, New Jersey. During this time, Aleyah received her Master’s of Arts in Teaching through Relay Graduate School of Education.
Aleyah completed her Bachelor’s degree from New York University in 2019. As a politics major, Aleyah’s social justice lens continued to grow. During her time at NYU she was involved in Alternative Breaks, where she taught students in the country of Belize about environmental awareness issues. She took part in two international conferences in Geneva, Switzerland and Auckland, New Zealand, as part of a youth conference advocating for non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.
Aleyah has many political passions/pursuits such as education, prison, and immigration reform. Aleyah hopes to incite positive change in underrepresented communities through policy and legislation.
