A formidable force hailing from New Jersey, David stood as the LGBTQ+ community’s unparalleled icon, tirelessly championing social justice and civil rights for decades. Garden State Equality deeply mourns the passing of this pillar of the movement.
In tribute to a transformative figure who fearlessly confronted adversity time and time again, the prestigious David B. Mixner Lifetime Achievement Award was instituted at the 2021 Equality Ball. Our heartfelt gratitude extends to Governor Murphy and Tammy Murphy for presenting the inaugural to David himself
David consistently stood up and spoke out for the most vulnerable members of our community as well as members of all marginalized communities. It is difficult to name a facet of the movement for equality upon which he did not have a profound impact.
Together, we mourn the loss of not just a friend but an indomitable icon.
