STATEMENT: Garden State Equality Denounces Transphobic and Invasive Tactics By Mayor Dodd in Dover Election

Garden State Equality is deeply concerned by the personal and inflammatory attacks made in a recent social media video posted by Mayor James P. Dodd, targeting Daniella Mendez a candidate for the First Ward in Dover. This video employs harmful tactics by focusing on personal information in an attempt to shame and disqualify Ms. Mendez from running for office.

The act of publicly disseminating personal details in this manner is a gross violation of privacy. Such tactics are designed to distract from the real issues facing the community and to undermine a candidate based on personal attacks rather than their qualifications or platform. It is also important to consistently use a person’s correct pronouns and respect their gender identity.

Garden State Equality unequivocally condemns the use of such personal attacks, especially when they appear to be leveraging harmful stereotypes and prejudice. We stand in solidarity with Daniella Mendez, whose privacy and integrity are being challenged through these divisive tactics.

We urge the Dover community to reject these negative campaigning methods and to focus on Daniella’s strong and professional track record in public office.
