A Call To Action!

Unacceptable!

Remember Ocean County Freeholder, Jack Kelly, who was so viciously anti-LGBT that a motion picture film, called “Freeheld“, was created because we fought hard to protect individuals from his homophobia? Jack Kelly was a member of the Freeholder board who repeatedly refused to grant Lt. Laurel Hester and Stacie Andree benefits. Kelly used his position of power to block equality for them in their moment of need as Laurel was dying.

Well, Governor Christie just nominated Kelly for the State Parole Board yesterday. This homophobe, who denied the rights of hardworking LGBT citizens, is going to be rewarded with a comfy position making $100,000 a year. We cannot allow him to be in a position of power to continue to do harm to the LGBT community again.

LGBT people, especially those who are people of color, can often face higher incarceration rates and injustice in our prison system. Senator Weinberg agrees this is a recipe for disaster, “The decisions issued by the parole board dramatically affect the lives of our residents, and appointees should possess the ability to make decisions based on facts, not on their personal prejudices.”

Will you please call your local Senator and let them know Jack Kelly is not fit for this position? You can find your local Senator’s contact information here: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/members/abcroster.asp
