Martin Luther King Weekend Shabbat Services at MRT

Featuring The MRT Choir and Guest Speaker: Reverend Gilbert H. Caldwell

The Rev. Gilbert H. Caldwell is a retired United Methodist minister who lives in Asbury Park, N.J. Having
started his Civil rights Career as a close friend of the now late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther king, Jr., he was
active in the Massachusetts unit of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and participated
in the civil-rights movement throughout the nation. In 2000 he, with others, organized the RMN Extension
ministry United Methodists of Color for a Fully Inclusive Church (UMOC), an organization committed to the
full inclusion of LGBT people in every aspect of church and society. Gil is a member of the PFLAG National
Board of Directors, honoree with degrees and citations, active member of two local churches, author of four
books, and alongside Rabbi, active in framing our community conversation around justice and peace.
