Today the Boy Scouts of America reaffirmed its longstanding policy to ban LGBT members and LGBT adult leaders. What do we think?
The Boy Scouts’ decision is an utter embarrassment to the organization. As the Edsel became to cars and the Commodore 64 became to computers, the Boy Scouts now risks becoming an outmoded laughingstock – an anachronism that no longer reflects society’s values. Especially during an era in which we face a bullying epidemic destroying the esteem of LGBT youth, the Boy Scouts has now become a societal problem rather than a solution. The organization is not only to be pitied, it should also be avoided like the plague.
